Bring Literature to Life

We believe classroom reading should be more than an assignment—it should be an experience. Our Reader’s Theater “Script-Stories" allow students to explore literature, myths, legends, and history through shared, collaborative reading. But Reader’s Theater is only part of what we offer. You’ll also find classroom games, creative activities, and complete units designed to help students engage with everything from Greek mythology to ancient cultures to classic literature.

Everything on this site has grown out of our own experience as English teachers. For more than twenty years, we’ve been developing and refining ways to help our own students become more engaged readers, writers, and thinkers. We hope you’ll find something here that makes teaching a little easier, learning a lot more engaging, and literature come to life.

Why Reader's Theater?

With Reader’s Theater “Script-Stories,” students participate in in-seat dramatic readings of specially adapted texts. This approach serves three important purposes.

First, it gives students an active role in reading, increasing engagement and supporting comprehension. Second, while research has found that practices such as Round Robin and Popcorn Reading can negatively affect reading fluency, Reader’s Theater has been shown to improve oral reading fluency in secondary students. Finally, it creates an interactive, entertaining learning environment that can transform the atmosphere of your classroom.
