This classroom game, based on concepts from the Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell as presented in his groundbreaking book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, asks students to create their own hero quest. In groups of two, students will create an original hero quest and then play it out. Students design cards such as the Hero, the Shadow, the Ally, Talismans, and the Mentor for their hero quest. Students choose from a list of special abilities and attributes, which will help determine the specific strengths and weaknesses of the characters they create. Then one student plays as the Hero and the other as the Shadow. Using a dice and a lot of strategy, they battle against one another to determine if the Hero can complete his quest.
