Literary Adventurers Club: August Expedition

• "The Most Dangerous Game" Often called one of the greatest short stories ever written, Richard Connell's classic follows celebrated hunter Sanger Rainsford after he becomes stranded on a mysterious island. There he meets the sophisticated General Zaroff, who has grown bored hunting animals and now pursues "the most dangerous game." If your students have never experienced this unforgettable tale, they're in for a thrill!
• "In the Cave of the Cyclops" Join Odysseus on one of the most famous episodes from The Odyssey as he faces the terrifying Cyclops, Polyphemus. This expanded adaptation also includes the encounter with the Lotus-Eaters, making it a perfect introduction to Homer's epic while interest in The Odyssey is at a high point.
• "Momotaro: The Peach Boy" Discover one of Japan's best-loved folktales. Born from a magical peach, the brave Momotaro sets out to rescue captives from the fearsome Oni of Demon Island. Joined by a loyal dog, monkey, and pheasant, he proves that courage, friendship, and determination can overcome even the greatest challenges.
